We’ve probably all heard the amazing benefits of Beetroot at some point. My own daily relationship started when I was first diagnosed with Cancer in 2013. But did you know that Science has proven beyond a doubt that a high intake of vegetables and fruits can reduce the risk of developing cancer and other diseases.
Beetroot is specifically quoted as being extraordinary in fighting disease and has anti-cancer chemicals. The deep, rich red colour of beetroots comes from betacyanins, natural compounds that are powerful cancer-fighting agents. Beets also contain powerful health-promoting phytochemicals.
One of the most researched items in beets is called Betanin, which has outstanding anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and detoxifying effects. Lab studies show that betanin pigments can impede tumour cell growth in tissues from the
Breasts, Colon, Lungs, Nerves, Prostate, Stomach, Testicles.
Scientists believe that the powerful chemicals in beets work together to prevent and fight cancer as well as other diseases. In addition to betalains, beets also contain high levels of other important micro-nutrients such as:
- Allantoin: A powerful alkaloid
- Fibre: Beetroot juice is a good source of fiber, and this means that it can further reduce blood pressure by reducing cholesterol
- Folate: Aides in the production and maintenance of cells and prevents against anemia.
- Iron: Helps fight against anemia, delivers oxygen to cells and is important for muscle proteins.
- Potassium: Helps lower blood pressure, prevent strokes and improve brain function.
How to get your Daily Beet Fix
Raw grated beetroot in salad is a great way to start. Great with grilled Salmon or Chicken.
In addition try a mid morning beetroot juice. Here’s one of my favourite recipes. I usually work to these ratios of 50% beetroot, 20% carrots, 20% apples and 10% ginger.
Rudolph Breuss, a herbal naturopath who cured thousands of cancer suffers found that cancer was, in effect, ‘starved’ when patients drank a similar type of juice (and herbal teas) for 42 days. He reported a 96% success rate for those he treated over 30 years of practice.
So how does it work?
‘Rudolph said ‘cancer is unable to survive without protein.’ And research shows that particular foods contribute to accelerated blood vessel growth around a tumour. Starving the body of these foods kills the blood vessels and subsequently starves the tumour.
